Decorating with Pantone Colour of the Year 2022

I may be a little late with this one, given that this was announced in December, but having recently come across it again, it made me contemplate how I may approach incorporating the Very Peri - Periwinkle - colour of the year into my projects.

According to Pantone, Very Peri evokes carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit - it’s inquisitive and intriguing. And yes, it may initially conjure up visions of a wisteria-draped Bridgerton house and seems a colour often reserved for weddings or more traditional interiors, but the motivation for hailing this colour of the year was more about looking forward than back.

The purplish blue highlights the collapse between physical and digital worlds accelerated by the likes of NFTs and the Metaverse.

Whether you go classic or contemporary there are plenty ways to incorporate playful Periwinkle in all Interiors.

Here are few ideas:

Wall Treatments

From graphical wallpapers and murals to feature walls. Periwinkle brightens any space. Its floaty, feminine and regal. Whether you edge closer to a bluer hue or to a muted purple, it will work well in most room sizes.

Cabinetry

Often used in more traditional homes, for that classic Southern Belle feel, why not mix it up and incorporate Periwinkle on contemporary cabinetry instead. I imagine if paired in a room that has moody navy or black walls, that it would look less feminine and quite striking.

Tablescapes

If you aren’t brave enough to change up your cabinets or wall colour, why not experiment with Periwinkle on your table settings. No better time than Easter to give it a go.

Tiles or Counters

A fabulous and brave way to inject colour will always be with natural stone or tiles. Whether you go classic or contemporary, Periwinkle or at least a hint of it should elevate your space.

Colour Combos

What I love most about Periwinkle is its versatility. It’s part of the wider purple family and in the subset of violet, which means it has a complex relationship between blue and red and is the main reason for its depth.

It can be paired with most colours and depending on whether you’re fan of neutrals or contrasting colour and pattern there will be a way for you to introduce periwinkle into your scheme.

Browns-Nude: Its fab with Camel, Beige or Nude if used as an accent colour with artwork.

Terracotta-Rose: From Terracotta to Coral, Peach to Rose, these provide beautiful contrast and balance. Try pairing a rug or patterned cushions in a neutral spaces if you’re not feeling too brave.

Gold-Yellow: It looks lush against Gold, Mustard, or Baby Yellow. Try a periwinkle armchair near mustard curtains or tablesetting with periwinkle dinner plates and gold cutlery.

Greens: From greens as soft as seafoam and sage, to deeper olives and emeralds. This is a naturally occurring palette is bound to look sensational if used in doses.

Grey-Navy: Periwinkle and Navy is a marriage made in heaven. Its regal and a palette that’s often used in weddings too. If you want something softer for a nursery or child’s bedroom, then pair periwinkle with grey for a calming effect.
